About

What custom cabinetry changes in your room

Custom cabinetry gives us more control over storage, wall fit, door movement, and finish details. We use it for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, home offices, built-ins, and other interior upgrades. The right fit depends on the room and the way you use it. We look at cabinet depth, shelf access, appliance clearances, trim, hardware, and the relationship between storage and walking space. This service suits homeowners who need a tailored layout. It may not suit a room where standard cabinets already fit well and the main need is a simple replacement door. Our preference is to size the engagement to the storage problem, not add cabinetry where it adds little use.

Process

How cabinet storage is planned and built

1

Assess the room and storage needs

We review the room measurements, wall conditions, appliances, trim, access paths, and the items you want the cabinets to hold.

2

Shape the cabinet layout

We develop the cabinet arrangement around clearances, door swings, shelf access, built-ins, and the room's finish direction.

3

Set the written scope

We provide a written scope, estimate, and project plan that records the selected cabinet work and related remodeling details.

4

Coordinate the work

We manage design, permitting, inspections, and skilled trade work when the cabinetry connects with a wider home renovation.

5

Complete the final walkthrough

We conduct a final walkthrough, address documented items, and leave the work area orderly after the cabinet work is complete.

What to prepare before cabinet planning

Bring practical details about your room and storage habits so we can shape a useful cabinet plan.

  • List the items you want stored, including tall, wide, or fragile pieces.
  • Mark appliances, plumbing fixtures, outlets, windows, doors, and trim that affect cabinet placement.
  • Collect inspiration for door styles, finishes, hardware, shelves, and built-in features.
  • Note which cabinet problems bother you most, such as dead corners or blocked doors.
  • Share the wider remodeling goals if cabinetry connects with flooring, countertops, painting, or a room renovation.

After experiencing water damage in our home, we needed to replace all our flooring, some kitchen cabinets, and redo our primary bath. Linda and her team truly saved the day after a disappointing experience with another contractor. She worked closely with us to choose the perfect tiles for our bathroom and find flooring that suited our home. Her contractors did exceptional work, from leveling the floors to installation and cabinet remaking, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Linda answered all our questions along the way, and we cannot speak highly enough of the work she and her team performed!

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Linda and her team did an excellent job! We would highly recommend them. We hired her for a kitchen remodel and asked for a very tight timeline. She delivered and we absolutely love the result. She was very commutative and available to us. Thank you Design and Build NW!

Questions homeowners ask about cabinet storage

Who provides custom cabinetry in Issaquah?

HomeRemodelIssaquah.link provides custom cabinetry in Issaquah and the surrounding King County area. We plan cabinet layouts, built-ins, finish carpentry, and related interior work around the room. The service can support kitchens, bathrooms, basements, whole-home renovations, and other upgrades. A written scope records the cabinet work and connected details before construction begins.

What changes the cost of a cabinet project?

Cabinet layout, materials, hardware, built-ins, finish details, and related remodeling work shape the project cost. A room with unusual walls or tight clearances may need more planning than a simple cabinet replacement. We review the room and storage goals, then provide a written estimate with the project scope so you can compare the work being considered.

Is custom cabinetry cheaper than buying standard cabinets?

Standard cabinets may cost less when their sizes fit the room and storage needs. Custom cabinetry may make more sense when gaps, awkward corners, built-ins, or poor access would limit a stock layout. We compare the required storage, cabinet fit, finish work, and related remodeling tasks before setting the scope. That keeps the choice tied to how the room must work.

What does the 1/3 rule mean for cabinets?

The 1/3 rule is a design guideline that uses one-third proportions to balance cabinet fronts, open areas, or repeated details. It is not a universal cabinet requirement. We use room measurements, door and drawer sizes, hardware placement, and your storage needs first. The final layout must remain practical, because a pleasing proportion cannot fix poor access or blocked movement.

What should I bring to the first cabinetry meeting?

Your storage list, room goals, appliance details, and finish preferences give us a useful starting point. Bring photos, rough measurements, and notes about doors, windows, outlets, plumbing, and trim. You can also mark which shelves or drawers feel hard to use. We use those details to assess fit and prepare a written scope, estimate, and project plan.

Can cabinetry be part of a larger home renovation?

Yes, cabinetry can connect with kitchen, bathroom, basement, whole-home, flooring, countertop, painting, and finish carpentry work. We coordinate the cabinet layout with the surrounding construction, so trim, clearances, and room access receive one review. HomeRemodelIssaquah.link also coordinates permitting, inspections, and skilled trade work through a managed remodeling process when the wider project calls for it.

What does your licensed and insured status mean for this work?

Our licensed and insured general contractor status supports the managed remodeling work we provide. It does not replace a clear cabinet scope or room assessment. We document the planned work, coordinate related design and trade steps, and keep direct communication throughout the project. Ask us about the cabinet work, connected remodeling tasks, and documents included in your estimate.

Common Mistakes With Custom Cabinetry

  • Measuring only the wall width can miss trim, outlets, appliances, and door swing. We check the full room before setting cabinet sizes.
  • Choosing shelves without listing stored items can leave tall or wide pieces unusable. We plan shelf positions around the things you need to reach.
  • Treating a narrow filler as wasted space can create a poor transition. We assess gaps, panels, trim, and adjacent doors before choosing the detail.
  • Selecting hardware after the layout can create blocked handles or awkward reach. We coordinate hardware, doors, drawers, and nearby clearances in the cabinet plan.

Key Points About Custom Cabinetry

  • Cabinet depth and door swing affect daily access.
  • Built-ins can solve storage gaps that standard sizes leave behind.
  • A written scope records cabinet work and connected remodeling details.
  • Hardware, trim, shelves, and cabinet boxes must work as one layout.
  • The best fit starts with what you store and how you use the room.

Scenarios

When Customers Call Us About Custom Cabinetry

1

Storage Gaps After a Layout Change

A changed room layout can leave narrow gaps, dead corners, or shelves that do not fit the items you use. Cabinet depth, door swing, and nearby trim need review before anyone fixes the visible gap. We assess the opening and storage needs, then set out a written cabinet scope that fits the wider remodeling plan.

2

Built-In Storage for Daily Use

Some homeowners need a cabinet wall, office storage, or a built-in that feels part of the room. The key choice is how the storage supports daily tasks without blocking movement or access. We discuss the items, reach points, finish carpentry, and trim, then develop a layout for the project estimate.

3

Cabinet Updates After Water Damage

Water damage can affect cabinet boxes, doors, flooring, and nearby finishes at the same time. Replacing one visible part may leave damaged materials or mismatched trim behind. We review the affected cabinetry and connected work, document the needed scope, and coordinate the repair or remodel plan with the rest of the room.
